From the Presidents Desk

It’s already November!! Boy that year went by quick! I truly hope everyone was able to accomplish their training goals for the year. Those short days and cold nights are quickly setting in on us making training harder and harder. Over the next few months there are a number of club activities that are both available for all and require some assistance from as many as possible. The Christmas party, obedience trial, ATTS testing, etc all promote the club and its activities along with providing a chance for us to get together with our favorite four legged friends. Hope to see you all out there.

Achievement Plaques

Every year at our annual Christmas Party the club presents an achievement plaque to all the members that have put AKC or UKC titles on their dogs. This is sponsored by the club and documents achievements for the 2004 calendar year.

Anita Ramsey is gathering up the information to have these available for the Xmas party. All club members that have put titles on any of their dogs this year should send to her by 11/20/04 an email (or phone call) with the name of the dog as you would like it on the plaque and the AKC and UKC titles earned this year. If you have any questions, please let Anita Ramsey or Dave Hamel know.

Brags

From Maggie Hayes

Woohoo! Snap earned his first AKC Senior Hunter leg on October 16 at the PVGRC’s hunt test is Cheltenham, MD. This was our first shot at it and he made me look good! The next day he finished his UKC CD with all placements at the Old Line KC show in Bel Air, MD. I am so proud of my boy!

From Vicky Hagemeister

My ACD Caesar earned his TD at the Winston-Salem Dog Training Club TD test on Sunday, November 6.

From Sharon Wright:

Razor completed His OTCH at the Greater Philadelphia Dog Fanciers Club with a 198 in Utility B for a second place and 9 points to put him over the top. The day before at the Penn Treaty show he was first in Utility B with a 197 and earned 30 points. This is SWEET and I love it.

From Maggie Hayes:

Mr. Snapper picked up his second Senior Hunter leg at the Maryland Retriever Club’s hunt test up in Cheltenham , MD on 11/13. Only two more to go!

From Denise Call:

UCD GR CH Calla’s Izzy My Valentine “aka” Tank has entered the ranks of AKC titles. Mr. Tank achieved his companion dog title with 4 straight legs finishing up at Merrimac’s trial on October 16, and 17th. Way to go; you will never be an OTCH, but what you give me in effort, loyalty, devotion and willingness to please mean more to me than any title ever could. Thank you Tank for being another dog of my heart.

Recipe

From Tracy Stevens

4 1/2 cups millet flour

1 15oz can of pumpkin

2 tsp baking powder

1/4 cup flax seed

2 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp salt

I use a lot of flour to get the correct consistency for cookies because pumpkin is so wet. Also, 1/4 cup flax seed may be overdoing it (I didn’t really measure those, just poured them in). Bake the cookies in a 300 degree oven for about 30-40 minutes. Then just let them sit in the oven until the oven is cool. This should make the cookies more crunchy in texture. I was able to make 64 thumbprint style cookies from the recipe. You can always freeze the dough or the cookies. Enjoy!

Trophy Pledges Needed!

The annual PCOTC Obedience Trials are just around the corner in January. The club needs everyone’s participation in offering trophies for the competitors. Please be generous and offer a prize or cash or donate to the general fund.

For example, one might offer a basket of dog treats for the Saturday trial for the Highest Scoring Dog in Novice A. Or, a dog specific item (like a mug with a Golden on it) for the Highest Scoring Golden Retriever in the trial. Be creative! Donate for both days if you can. If you would like to donate cash, just put the amount and mark it for the General Fund.

Do not send the trophies or cash immediately, Denise will contact you about when and where she needs to collect them. Right now the important thing is your commitment. Please note that if you donate for a class that has already been donated for, we would like to use your trophy in the General Fund for another appropriate class. If this happens, and you would prefer that Denise contact you first to discuss, please mark here _______.

A Note From Kendal Owens

I just wanted to let everyone know I lost my little Sassie October 24th. I want to write something as a tribute to her and put it in the Pup, but I have not been able to. I just wanted to let my friends in the club know about my loss. It will take me a long time to get past this. I do not know how dog lovers get through this. It has been just about more than Pete or myself can take. If anyone has any suggestions about how to get by this I could use some suggestions. Thanks, Kendal

P.S. I do not know when I will be back out but I will be back eventually!

Just Because Quotes:

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours faithful and true to the best of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

From the Training Director

I want to express my deepest sympathy to Kendal Owens on the loss of her dog Sassy. Kendal, remember her as she was and all the best times you had together. Hearts heal with time but the memories stay forever.

I need to apologize for not getting any articles out in the recent past. My health has been precarious with recent hospital stays and surgeries. I am hoping for a better year in 2005. Please accept my apologies for not being a better training director.

Our Christmas party is scheduled for December 5th at Mark McCuens new home. I hear it is BYOC, bring your own chair, it seems Mark has recently moved into his new domicile. It is also time to think about donating trophies to our trial scheduled in January 2005. In this newsletter please fill out the trophy donation sheet and mail to me or hand to me at the Christmas party. Money is always welcome, as well as any special award you would like to offer. You better be brushing up on you obedience routines. I hope to see you all entered at our trial.

Anyone who has earned a title in 2004 needs to contact me ASAP for our awards ceremony at the Christmas party. Please feel free to call me at home with information 252 771 2275 . I will be home till after Thanksgiving to accept calls. My email has been sketchy at best so don’t rely on email. I have asked Santa to bring me a new computer. I hope he has read my list.

We are lining up people who have teaching talents for next years classes. Please let me know if you can share your tricks, and talents with us. Our first session in January starts January 5th with basic orientation and our first CGC of the year. David Hamel will teach the first basic class. The first advanced class will be Advanced Rally, Lee Hussey will be instructing, this class starts January 12th at 8 PM.

See you all at the Christmas party.

Densie Call
